Who I Am
Hi, I’m Sarah—the hands, heart, and mind behind The Moon & Quill. I started this shop as a way to combine my love for creativity with my passion for storytelling and handmade art. Over time, it’s become more than just a business; it’s a space where I can share small pieces of joy with others through the things I make. Handmade items feel special because they carry both the craft and the intention of the maker, and I love that this shop allows me to bring that to life.
I’m originally from Michigan, but I’ve made Georgia my home. Alongside running The Moon & Quill, I’m also a college student studying Human Behavior and Development with a minor in Child Development. Balancing school and business isn’t always easy, but it pushes me to stay organized and intentional with my time. Both paths feed into each other—I learn from my studies while growing this shop, and this shop helps me stay creative and grounded while I study.
My Background
Before The Moon & Quill, I spent time working as a preschool teacher, and I currently work as a nanny. Those experiences taught me patience, adaptability, and the importance of finding joy in small, everyday moments. They also shaped how I approach creating—taking care with details, staying curious, and always looking for ways to make things both fun and meaningful.
That background in caregiving and education naturally flows into my craft. I see each piece I make as something that should bring comfort and delight, the same way a favorite toy, story, or activity can light up a child’s day. Whether I’m crocheting a plushie, designing a tote, or assembling jewelry, I bring that same energy of care and playfulness into the process.
Why I Create
Making has always been my way of expressing myself and connecting with others. For me, The Moon & Quill isn’t just about producing items—it’s about weaving meaning into everyday things. I want someone to pick up a pair of earrings, a handmade bookmark, or a “blind date with a book” and feel like it has a story attached, as if it was made just for them.
I also believe creativity is a form of community. Sharing my work through markets, online platforms, and even live streams lets me interact with people in real time, which makes the process more personal. Customers often become part of the design journey, whether by suggesting ideas, voting on colors, or simply sharing their love for books and art. That connection is what motivates me to keep creating and growing.
Beyond the Shop
When I’m not crafting, I’m usually studying, spending time with my partner, or relaxing with my two cats, Luna and Artemis. They’re not only part of my everyday life but also a big inspiration for the shop’s name and celestial theme. I love the idea of blending those personal touches with my business identity—it makes The Moon & Quill feel like an extension of my world.
I also enjoy finding little ways to slow down and recharge, like cozy reading sessions on foggy mornings, experimenting with new craft ideas, or catching up on favorite shows. These moments keep me balanced and remind me why I started this journey in the first place. The Moon & Quill represents all those pieces of my life—creativity, care, study, and play—and I’m excited to keep sharing that with everyone who connects with this shop.
